Alternative
A Claude Code Router alternative built around routing strategies
Want Claude Code on DeepSeek, OpenAI, OpenRouter or a local model — without maintaining routing rules? AutoJev connects Claude Code to a local gateway in one click and picks a model for each request by speed, cost or quality.
- One-click Claude Code connect, with config backup and restore
- Anthropic Messages converted to Chat Completions or Responses
- Load balancing, intelligent selection and failover
- Free desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux
Route every request to the right model.

Why people look for a Claude Code Router alternative
Claude Code Router (CCR) is the community project many developers first used to run Claude Code on other models. It has grown into a broad gateway and control plane, with rule-based routing, credential pools, ToolHub, MCP tools, browser automation and chat-app relays.
That breadth is exactly what some people want. Others are looking for something narrower: a native desktop app, no Node.js toolchain, no rule language, and routing decisions that are based on measured latency and real prices instead of hand-written conditions. They also want to use the same routes from Codex, Gemini CLI and OpenCode, not just Claude Code.
AutoJev is built for that second group. If the CCR feature set fits you, keep using it — see our side-by-side comparison for an honest breakdown.
How AutoJev differs
Strategies instead of rules
Each route uses weighted load balancing with priority groups, or intelligent selection with a balanced, lower-cost, higher-quality or lower-latency preference.
Speed tests built in
AutoJev measures first-content latency and tokens/s per model on a schedule. Latency-first routes decide locally from those samples.
Failover that waits for output
On connection errors or HTTP 401/402/403/408/429/5xx before any output, AutoJev tries the next candidate (up to 4 attempts by default) and puts the failing model on cooldown.
Native app, no runtime
A signed Tauri and Rust app with auto-update. Nothing to install with npm, nothing to keep running in a terminal — it lives in the tray or menu bar.

Move Claude Code from CCR to AutoJev
There is no automatic importer for CCR configs, so you re-add providers once. Everything after that is clicks.
- 1
Install AutoJev
Download AutoJev for macOS, Windows or Linux and open it. The gateway starts on 127.0.0.1:9527.
- 2
Add your providers
In Providers, add the same endpoints you used in CCR: presets for OpenAI, DeepSeek, OpenRouter and Ollama, or OpenAI Compatible / Anthropic Compatible with a custom URL for anything else. Run a provider test.
- 3
Add models and build a route
Add model IDs with their upstream API type and price, then create a route — for example fast with a latency preference, or quality with intelligent selection.
- 4
Stop pointing Claude Code at CCR
Stop CCR, or remove any ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL you set for it, so that only one gateway manages Claude Code’s settings.
- 5
Connect Claude Code in one click
Open Agents, select the route for Claude Code and click Connect. AutoJev backs up ~/.claude/settings.json and writes the gateway settings. Then run claude as usual.
What the one-click connect writes
The env block AutoJev sets in ~/.claude/settings.json (excerpt). Disconnecting restores your original file.
What protocol conversion cannot do
Claude Code’s thinking blocks are dropped when converting to OpenAI formats, and conversion cannot add tools, vision or reasoning to a model that lacks them. Pick models with tool calling for agent work.
Trademarks
Claude and Claude Code are trademarks of Anthropic. Claude Code Router and other product names belong to their respective owners. AutoJev is not affiliated with or endorsed by them. Competitor details are summarized from public documentation as of October 2026 and may have changed.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good alternative to Claude Code Router?
If you want a native desktop app with routing strategies, scheduled speed tests and one-click setup for several agents, AutoJev is a free option. If you need request rules, rewrites or the CCR tool layer, CCR is still the better fit.
Can AutoJev import my Claude Code Router config?
Not currently. AutoJev imports providers from CC Switch and Termany. For CCR, add your providers once in the Providers page.
How do I use DeepSeek in Claude Code with AutoJev?
Add the DeepSeek preset with your key, add the model, put it in a route (or select it directly), and connect Claude Code under Agents. Claude Code’s Anthropic Messages requests are converted if the model’s API type is Chat Completions.
Does AutoJev work with Claude Code’s model picker?
AutoJev sets ANTHROPIC_MODEL and the default Haiku, Sonnet and Opus model variables to your selected route or model, and writes a model list for the routes and models you selected for Claude Code.
Can I undo the switch?
Yes. Disconnect Claude Code in AutoJev, or quit AutoJev from the tray, and your original ~/.claude/settings.json is restored, keeping any later non-conflicting edits.
Is AutoJev free?
Yes. AutoJev is free and open source under the MIT license. You pay providers directly; AutoJev adds no markup.
